Progress at the Caboose!
I was thrilled to get some progress photos of the demolition work from the Scenic Caboose project today! The builder, Red House Construction got in there yesterday and completed a pretty thorough interior demo in just 1 day of work. Cabinets, appliances, plumbing fixtures and lighting came out in a hurry and then they started working their way through layers of wall and ceiling finish.
The walls had contemporary drywall panels installed by a previous owner that covered what appears to be the original horizontal wall paneling (painted an off-white over a green lower section), which was also removed to allow for revised electrical wiring and (for the first time) wall insulation. Behind that is the timber-framed structure of the car of itself - I can’t tell the condition of it from the photos, but it’s good to get eyes on it. This framing is attached to a vertical tongue + groove plank system that is most likely the original exterior cladding of the car - this is mean to remain and hopefully we’ll get a better look at it when some of the exterior demolition is done.
The curved ceilings also had a T+G plank finish that has been removed to expose lovely bent beams that create the distinctive barrel vault of the roof. The roof will get insulation and some lighting before a comparable finish is put back.
I wish I could be there to see (and help with) this in person, but I’ll settle for photos since I can’t be - the progress is exciting!
